Thanks for getting back to me. What I have done instead is to not use tilp2 so this is not an issue (for me) any more. (Instead I run TI's calculator access program in a WinXP VM under VirtualBox.) I have an Ubuntu 8.10 VM and will see if I can reproduce the problem there.
