Bit of an oddity; I downloaded a song the other day, SoundAmerica (something like that) and opened it up today . It played and I was able to hear it from a speaker plugged into the CT4830 Sound Card. I then went to a couple internet sites, ie. CNN and Yahoo to play some videos that came up in the news. In those videos, people were talking. I did not hear any sound with the video playing. I am able to listen to sound/songs from an area called MUSIC PLAYER- A number of connected sites are listed, ie. Wbur.org Boston News site. On that site, people are generally talking about current event news stories. I can also listen to a variety of other sites- listen to sound. I am not able to listen to people talking from web sites, ie. web course material/ videos. The video plays, but NO SOUND. Like I said, this is all very odd. Allan, Can you try running this command at a gnome terminal: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras ? This should give you the necessary codecs to hear the videos from some of the sites you're having issues with. Let me know if this helps.
