Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager
There should be an option in the gui to tell network manager to look for wireless networks. Currently I obtain the same result with: sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart I find that in some situations where my Access Point isn't initially detected (because of low signal strength/interference), network manager will take a very long time to detect it on it's own (if at all), whereas 1 or at most 2 attempts of the above command will quickly solve the issue. This is a situation where multiple runs of sudo iwlist wlan0 scan give different results, with my AP sometimes on it sometimes not. But once it is connected, it works reliably. Also I could see it being useful when moving around etc. It is a standard feature on similar windows/mac utilities. This would also provide a workaround for the suspend bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/264683 Restarting nm from command line is fine for me but not for less CLI- aware users. For the record, I am running an up-to-date, 32 bit Ubuntu 8.10, and my wireless card has a broadcomm chipset that works very well with ndiswrapper. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Feature request: search for wireless connections https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/319764 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
