Mike I agree with you, I was also totally new when got that problem. and i reinstalled my ubuntu to get rid of that problem :(
but now i know that "sudo" is required to type and sudo dpkg --configure -a commands needs to run about three times to fix the problem. -- E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
