This is not about security. It is about forcing a considerable big
update upon every 8.10 user to resolve a completely minor issue that
does not even disturb workflow.

It might be annoying, but that doesn't justify stealing bandwith from
every user.

Once 4.2.0 is released (which will be soonish) we will publish it via
the usual channels (possibly intrepid-backports) then you can galdy
update and get the fix. But I have to decline a stable release update.
Please be compassionate with those who don't have infinte bandwith and
download time :)
