Regrettably, the "most used application" feature was lost in the move to KDE4.
Therefore there is no way to add sorting functionality to this feature. You
can, however, track the feature request for the re-inclusion of the most used
application feature here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179953
