It could be the way amule was coded...it uses Input Boxes to display text messages...The only way to see those messages is to open System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Customize -> Colors -> Input Boxes -->> change the color from white to something a little darker...don't make it too dark as this will change colors in every input box available in the system and in the web browsers.
