When I installed Intrepid alpha I tried to move my old configuration file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf to the new intrepid install.
These options which were used to speed up video and reduce tearing and some
other video improvments included this option (in the Device Section):
  Option "TexturedXRender" "1"

I cam around, that as sonn as i added that option, my log in screen
would flicker for about 1s and then die (with 1px blue vertical lines
and ~30px yellow lines) and then a long blackscreen which will
  stayuntill you reboot.

The only option to reset these things is to set the option to zer0, and
update /etc/ati/amd...
  is to use thsi command:
  sudo aticonfig --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf --tls=1

I think it shouldn't be the case that TexturedXRender should prevent any
user from graphically logging in, aswell as the option is "required" to
watch movies/TV on your PC (as I do sometimes).
