I see no improvement in Edgy with my Palm Zire 31: Nothing starts automatically and I can't sync even when starting the Palm control panel manually.
I do have the necessary <device vendor_id="0830" product_id="0061" /> line in usr/share/gnome-pilot/devices.xml (though I don't know whether it's there by default now) However, this desktop is not a clean Edgy installation. It's been upgraded to Edgy after being upgraded to Dapper in the past.
