I think Its worth mentioning the following: 1- This problem happens only on Ubuntu, I've used fedora 7,8,9 and 10 for two years and never saw this issue (with or without video files); However, it showed up once every month or so on my other Ubuntu machines. So the problem probably resides somewhere in the difference between the fedora and Ubuntu's.
2- This problem happened many times by just letting Ubuntu run while viewing the desktop; the desktop contained only encrypted files (encrypted files from other appliances that I use) I wish I can help more...
