I think this might be an Ubuntu problem since it does not seem to pop up
even for Gedit for me. If I remember correctly it used to do this. There
may still be a bug in OpenOffice.org as well but currently even regular
Gnome apps aren't stopping shutdown for me.

Seb - slangasek had this to say:

19:17 < slangasek> calc: GNOME upstream broke the use of the standard session
protcol
19:18 < slangasek> calc: so that really ought to be assigned to gnome-session;
dunno if a bug is already open
19:18 < slangasek> cf. http://np237.livejournal.com/22014.html

** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: openoffice.org => gnome-session
       Status: Incomplete => New
