I have been using Xubuntu Intreprid for a while and with current kernel 2.6.27-2-generic at least suspend (to RAM) seems to work. I haven't tried to hibernate lately, but, I'll inform, if I notice that it does not work. I have not noticed corrupted screen during shutdown anymore.
