I checked dmesg and I do get: [ 11.294297] video: Unknown parameter `acpi_backlight' ... [ 11.485042] video: Unknown parameter `acpi_backlight'
in dmesg but it still makes a difference for my backlight behaviour since 2.6.27-11.23smb2 without the option doesn't work and with the option works.. I'm puzzled. @Stefan I tried adding acpi_backlight=video as a kernel parameter and it didn't do it. Brightness is broken in the same way I described earlier. I did that on 2.6.27-11.23smb2. This is strange since you said that it should be the behaviour of 2.6.23-11.23-generic which works fine for me. I attached dmesg output and will attach grep -r . /proc/acpi/video right after. I noticed that you updated your PPA (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21134071/linux_2.6.27-11.23smb4_source.changes), I'll give it a try right now and report my experience.
