For those who can't wait: it's worth trying to compile digikam and kipi- plugins from source. It's really easy and tested by many persons. An excellent howto is written at the kde-wiki (sorry, currently broken): http://wiki.kde.org/tiki- index.php?page=Digikam+Compilation+on+Kubuntu+Intrepid.
