That would mean installing 8.10 on my machine, running it, then
selecting system -> admin -> create a usb startup disk?  The feature
"create a usb startup disk" is not available on 8.04 as far as I know.
If I could download the iso, copy it to my usb, then do it from there,
then sure, I'd check that.

Because my sources.lst may be messed up in some way, I have to do apt-
get update to find updates for my system.  I did that, and the Pidgin
situation changed a bit, although I noticed no Pidgin-related items in
the updates (!).

Now I'm getting an error message: "Unable to retrieve MSN address book".  I 
found this thread on this issue:

The issue is supposedly related to msnp14 or 15, which isn't even on my list of 
plugins.

Any ideas on a fix for Ubuntu users?
