This seems to have been fixed now. I can 'print' a PDF (for example this
page) and select text, then paste it into Gedit and the text is pasted
correctly.

Unfortunately I'm not positive when it was fixed: the only updates that
seems might have effected it are the following, which I upgraded on Jan
3rd.

cups (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-bsd (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-client (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-common (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
ghostscript (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1
ghostscript-x (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1
libcups2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
libcupsimage2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6

Unfortunately, the original PDFs created with the older
programs/libraries appear to be permanently corrupted, as they cannot be
printed to the new PDF (copying gives even stranger characters than the
original).

Thank you for fixing this. I would close this but I don't know how to go
about doing that.

Thanks,
Jamie Dimmel
