John, This anomaly happens in Thunderbird on Windows, too. The "ghost" directory keeps re-appearing, even though I empty the trash in Thunderbird many times. Using FileZilla, I looked at the directories under the mail directory. It simply does not show up.....so it can't be deleted. Plus, it's Kubuntu Linux; so it's KDE, not gnome.
