Using Ubuntu Intrepid
On the Dell XPS m1530 and similar laptop's there is an eject button on
the front above the keyboard.
Pressing that button forces the cd to be ejected without being unmounted
first, showing a message that the device wasn't unmounted cleanly.
In most cases, the icon of the cd still remains visible on the desktop
even though it has been ejected.
That eject button should first unmount the device, then perform the
ejection.
