Same problem here. Upgraded to 8.10 a few days ago. Can no longer get Switch User to work.
System -> Log Out -> Switch User: does not take me to the user selection screen. Sometime I get a dialog box saying: "Cannot start new display" -> "There were errors trying to start the X server" Debuging: 1. "dmesg | tail" shows nothing of interest 2. "tail /var/log/messages" shows nothing of interest 3. There seem to be nothing of interest in /var/log/Xorg.0.log ... strange ... Let me know if there is somewhere else I can look an post more debug details.
