Public bug reported: Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree
After talking with some people on Ubuntuforums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1000906&highlight=flash) I have discovered that most people are having trouble with flash because they install it from Adobe's website and not from the repositories. The version from the Adobe website does not install nspluginwrapper like the repository version. This causes many issues. Unfortunately, this problem is more political than software related, but something needs to be done about it. To duplicate: 1. Install a fresh version of Ubuntu without flashplugin-nonfree. 2. Go to youtube.com in Firefox. 3. You will notice both an information bar in Firefox and a link on the web page notifying you to install Flash, click the link and not the information bar. 4. You will be directed to Adobe.com and be instructed to install a .deb file. 5. Download the .deb file and install it. You have now installed Adobe's Flash plugin for Ubuntu instead of the version from the repository. ** Affects: flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Users install from Adobe site https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
