This now sounds like a screen resoultion problem, which is not what you originally reported, and cannot be caused by a firefox update. Are you sure Compiz is now disabled (desktop effects = none)? What do you mean by 50% of the screen, can you only see a fraction of your desktop? Could you please take a screenshot of the issue? Thanks again.
