Dear jt:

Here is the result of running that command in terminal:

udev:
  Installed: 124-9
  Candidate: 124-9
  Version table:
 *** 124-9 0
        500 http://archive.linux.duke.edu intrepid-updates/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     124-8 0
        500 http://archive.linux.duke.edu intrepid/main Packages

However, I don't exactly understand that second part of your request.
Are you saying that the contents of the storage-rules file as it stands
right now will give you a trail of ALL of the events that you want to
see or are you wanting me to capture the contents of that file after
each of the 3 stages that you list, which if I am understanding this
correct would require me to do a complete reinstallation of Intrepid
from scratch. If that is the case, then I might be willing to take my
CD drive out of the machine that I have the installation on now and move
it to another very similar machine that I have yet to get installed and
try it on that one. I don't want to risk messing up the configuration I
have on this machine (I have worked too long to get it working just like
I want it). Let me go on to say that I think this problem with the CD
ejection not working correctly is dependent on the brand/type of drive
that is being used in the machine. I say that because when I first did
the installation on the machine that I am typing this on now (my main
machine) that I had another brand of CD-RW drive in the machine and when
I did the Ubuntu install with that brand drive in the machine I did not
have the problem once I had applied all of the Ubuntu updates. But then
after doing that installation, I decided to change some of the hardware
in this machine and one of those was to take that brand CD-RW out of the
machine and replace it with another which I consider to be a more
desirable drive. And when I did that, when I reinstalled the O/S with
this other brand of CD-RW in the machine that I had the problem that was
not resolve by just installing all of the updates but I had to indeed
run the 2 commands that I found in a post on the Ubuntu forums.

Let me know if you want me to reconfigure the other machine and I will
give it a try when I get a chance but IT MAY BE A WHILE.

Thanks.
