Have you by chance tried this with the final release of 8.10? It's rather unlikely that Edubuntu would make your system unbootable as it's just educational apps on top of Ubuntu. If you really had a LVM/encryption bug it would be from the Ubuntu side of things, in which case we need to retarget this bug.
