I am seeing this bug in Intrepid. I have written a bash script to workaround the problem, using a combination of xdotool imagemagick and scrot.
(Note: xdotool only available in the repository from Intrepid onwards). I posted the script in my blog, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to link to the post here.
