I had this exact same problem after a brand new install of Ubuntu 8.10 64 and the latest svn of mythtv. I finally got it to work by going into mythvideo / watch movies and hit M to change the view. I think I pick file view - don't recall - but that appeared to do the trick....cost me most of the day...I'm surprised that more people have not complained about this - but this thread was the only hit I found... Meph1st0 gave me the the idea - I tried his suggestion - did not work for me - did not spend very long trying that - but the other way worked....what a royal pain this has been...
