Same issue on update from 8.04 -> 8.10. Solved with Håvard and Eric's tips:
sudo rm -r /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/* sudo apt-get remove fglrx* downloaded ATi's latest installer from their site sudo ./ati-driver-installer-8-12-x86.x86_64.run reboot Interestingly enough, EnvyNG, which setup my X1300 (almost) perfectly under 8.04 with only a few tweaks required, no longer works under 8.10.
