Public bug reported: Hi,
i have upgraded to the Intrepid Ibex of late and i am facing constant issues with the desktop manager on every login. This is what happens +++++++++++++++ 1. there is no background/wallpaper display 2. the manager doesn't load at times. I have to explicitly go to the settings and start it 3. even when the explicit start is issued, the screen blanks out 4. ntfs disks are not mounted , but if an external ntfs disk is connected, it auto mounts This is what i have tried +++++++++++++++++ 1. added xfce-desktop and xfce manager in auto start applications 2. tinkered with fstab for auto mount Sporadic behavior noticed. +++++++++++++++++++ When i first upgraded to 8.10, the kernel version was 2.6.x.x.7 , on an update it turned 2.6.x.x.9. I had copied the files in /var/cache/apt/archives to another folder on my external hard drive so as to keep a copy of the updates in case the OS crashes due to some reason. I then install grub-splashimages and startupmanager and installed a grub image to the system. I cross checked if the image was applied in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and reloaded. I did comment out the earlier versions of the kernel available on the system before reloading it Observed Behavior +++++++++++++ Except for the windows option, all other options when selected would bring me back to the grub again. I dint know why this happened, i coudnt edit the command line either because i had no idea what went wrong with it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Hi, i have upgraded to the Intrepid Ibex of late and i am facing constant - issues with the desktop manager on every logon. + issues with the desktop manager on every login.
