this issue also exists in intrepid with kernel 2.6.27-9-generic and it
is driving me crazy.

after i first installed my system everything was fine, i had sound out
of the box for a few weeks. then somewhere down the road it broke. i
cannot say what upgrade broke it, but upgrading to intrepid did not fix
it.

i tried alsa-driver-1.0.18a from source and also vanilla 2.6.27 -- no
success.

the mainboard is an intel essential DG33TL, acc. to specs:
- Intel 82801IR (ICH9R)
- IDT STAC9271D audio codec

lshw confirms:
        *-multimedia UNCLAIMED
             description: Audio device
             product: 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller
             vendor: Intel Corporation
             physical id: 1b
             bus info: p...@0000:00:1b.0
             version: 02
             width: 64 bits
             clock: 33MHz
             capabilities: pm msi pciexpress cap_list
             configuration: latency=0

i tried all models acc. to ALSA-Configuration.txt:
        STAC9227/9228/9229/927x
          ref           Reference board
          3stack        D965 3stack
          5stack        D965 5stack + SPDIF
          dell-3stack   Dell Dimension E520
          dell-bios Fixes with Dell BIOS setup

also probe_mask=1 or 8 did not help

pci=noacpi also did not work!

here's some dmesg:
[   14.381094] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: found PCI INT A -> IRQ 10

what to do?
