Hmm... Well I thought that switching to Wicd fixed it, but then (possibly after a round of system updates over the last couple days) the problem started up again. Upgrading to the latest firmware didn't help out with it either; neither did switching to the opensource driver. Finally (after trying out OpenSolaris a bit...) back to 8.04 and it's working fine.
Maybe some of us experiencing this problem are partly seeing the effects of Dell's infamous motherboard/graphics card design issue (http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2008/09/12 /nvidia-gpu-update-limited-warranty-enhancement-details.aspx) - this could explain why gdm started only half the time when I tried running Solaris). But then I'm not sure why the issue would be triggered under 8.10 and not Hardy. -- Intrepid system freeze on dell XPS 1330 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277391 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
