Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope yesterday. Haven't had a ton of
time to use it but I did come across a bug. I can't use various
programs. I first noticed it when I went to open Biniax-2. It is like I
hit "Ctrl+Alt+Backspace" to restart the xserver. but it does it by
itself. first thought it could be the fglrx driver. I saw that the new
XOrg could cause problems so I switched to the ati opensource driver. No
dice. This also happens with Wine. When I open WineCFG it too causes the
system to crash and return to the login screen. Something that may be
connected is I am having trouble with the gnome-settings-daemon. When I
go to System >Preferences > Appearance and a message saying:

Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take
effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)
settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings
manager.

I peered into my logs. I put the sections from 5 minutes before crash to
5 minutes after. Best I could anyway. Figured if you need more info from
a particular you could ask. I am using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 64bit
Kernel-2.6.28-3-generic. gnome-settings-daemon 2.25.2ubuntu3 not sure
what other packages could effect this but if there is just ask.
