For information: I just installed Opera browser (some people suggested it was more stable).
I booted kernel 2.6.24-21 (without backports) & opened only Opera. In less than 5 minutes of intensive browsing (Google News pages) I got the usual kernel panic. So I guess the title of this bug report is probably misleading.
