I can confirm most everyone else's issues with a new install of 8.10 (Intrepid) and the Nvidia Drivers. I have seen the problem in both the Nvidia driver versions 173 & 177.
Currently using an Nvidia GEForce 8800 GTS with (2) monitors setup on Xinerama. I continually have had issue with loss of mouse 'click' function while still maintaining the keyboard control. The problem seems to happen at various points throughout the day, and it is tough to duplicate. I have noticed a pattern where a program will open a second dialogue (especially when it opens on the second screen) and the mouse click functions quit working. It happens often with VLC, Firefox, DeVeDe, and switching back and forth across screens in Nautilus. Have also tried to get 'out' of the issue without restarting the xserver with Kevin Brown's solution on 12/09, but this solution does not seem to work for me. The only way to get 'out' is to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE and login again. The Nvidia driver version 173 does seem to happen a bit less often. Not too sure I want to mess with downgrading Xorg.
