Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-23-generic
This morning Ubuntu upgraded to version 8.04.2. This included a kernel upgrade to 2.6.24-23. After reboot, the xserver said it was running in low graphics mode (800x600 I think). The nvidia driver (for GeForce 8400 GS) didn't appear in hardware drivers. Also, the speaker icon had a cross in it, when clicked it said something about no devices. I rebooted into recovery mode and ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. I then booted normally and had the correct resolution (1440x900), but hardware drivers still didn't have nvidia and sound still wouldn't work. I rebooted and selected the previous kernel, 2.6.24-22, and everything started normally, including sound. Hardware drivers had the nvidia driver, which was deselected. I selected and now everything works as normal, except I'm using the previous kernel. I will have to manually select the previous kernel on booting until this problem is fixed. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kernel upgrade breaks nvidia xserver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
