I tried to use Orca Screen Reader following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Accessibility with the Live CD.
The CD is xubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso dated 30-Oct-2008 . I put the CD in, hit ENTER when the language selection came up, hit F5, 3, ENTER, ENTER. When the desktop appears, the only way to start Orca was to press Alt+F2, type orca and then hit Run. I tried this on two different computers, a P4 1.4GHz with 1GB RAM and a 64-bit 2.2GHz with 3GB RAM.
