Public bug reported: On 8 August 2008 I installed an Edimax EW7128g PCI card with RT2561 chipset in my Acer T120-3000 desktop PC which I dual-boot with XP(SP2). I have been using all the other hardware since December 2006 with Edgy, Fiesty & Gutsy. At the time I was running Gutsy with kernel 2.6.22-14 (I think). The PCI card worked fine in XP (always) but connection was erratic in Ubuntu.
Ubuntu forum advised me to upgrade to Hardy so I did that 16 August. 19 August in OOorg, using mouse in menus - had first ever freeze with Caps lock & Scroll lock flashing - no mouse or keyboard so had to shut down on button. After that I would get several similar crashes every day, seemingly always when using the mouse & usually in Firefox-2. 6 September (using kernel 2.6.24-19) the French Ubuntu forum recommended installing linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-generic which I did. This included rt61pci version 2.1.4 instead of old 2.0.10 Since then I never had a freeze with 2.6.24-19. At that time Firefox upgraded to 3.0 16 October I upgraded to kernel 2.6.24-21 Froze after 20 minutes & repeatedly. Went back to booting kernel 2.6.24-19 OK. 7 December upgraded to kernel 2.6.24-22 Froze after 8 minutes in Firefox 3.0 (using mouse as usual). Repeat freezes so booted 2.6.24-19 again. 12 December installed linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-22 with rt61pci version 2.1.8 Kernel 2.6.24-22 works fine with this fix. No freezes since then. I can still freeze within minutes with 2.6.24-21 which has not had the backports modules. Please ask for any additional information. ** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kernel panics when using mouse in Firefox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
