I've talked to Dan Williams, the person that maintains this package in GNOME, and he said that the latest version, released 27-Nov-2008, doesn't have this bug. You can find this version here: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/NetworkManager/0.7/
I couldn't manage to compile the source code by myself (I don't have too much experience on that).
