There is a new brasero release which fixes the problem. I have compiled the version 0.8.4 of brasero and I was able to burn a Audio-CD without problems.
The bug has been mentioned as fixed in the release notes. - 557561 – Brasero don't recognize empty disk If you take a look at the upstream bug-report there is also a patch attached.
