Kind of same problem here, I've got music on a Vista partition, I could play music when I mounted this normally, but at a certain moment it stopped working. I installed ubuntu-restricted-extras and it worked for some time, but after 10 mins or so (in which I had just been removing some files from the Vista partition) it stopped working again...
