It appears to be fixed now. It has disappeared and reappeared with various of the automatic updates.
I still have an issue where *.flv (youtube downloads) files play when logged in as the default user but the sound device fails to open on playback if logged in as my added user. But other than this sound is currently working for the non-default user. If the 92 updates being installed now break it again I'll get back to you. --wally. Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Default sound setup works fine as far as I can tell for the default user that was setup by the 8.04 installer. But for new users added with the System->Administration->UsersAndGroups tool I get no sound. The added users are members of the audio group according to cat /etc/group command, but the audio group itself does not show up in the UsersAndGroup manage groups tool! Using System->Preferences->Sound tool when I try Sound Events Test I get the following error dialog: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argumen" Which is of less than zero help to me. When logged in as the default user setup by the installer, this tool plays the sinewave with playback set to auto. When logged in as one of the added users, if I set playback to ALSA I hear the sine wave for the test but sounds tab still gets no sound when I try to play the logout sound. --wally. -- 8.04 sound doesn't work for added (new) users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227841 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
