I have had so many problems with the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 that I have now done a complete install of 8.10 instead. This has resolved my problem with my sound and network card with the elantech patched kernel. I cannot adjust anything regarding mouse settings and it jumps about from time to time. I also seem to be getting key bounce since the change to 8.10. I will stick with this for now but it is very disappointing after my past experiences with Ubuntu. None of what maksvlad has suggested makes any difference. There is still the shared memory problem.
