If you're dual booting with Windows then you might try regressing back to your old BIOS and upgrading from Windows before going back in linux. This might rule out a bad BIOS pack or upgrade. You might also try regressing back to your old BIOS from linux itself and seeing if the problem goes away. I'll leave the status as "New" since someone might be able to confirm your issues on the same laptop model.
