I was actually using rsyncd with BackupPC and getting this error. I refer you to the mailing list post by Craig Barratt (author of BackupPC and File::RsyncP) that suggests the work-around and that the problem was fixed upstream: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.sysutils.backup.backuppc.general/8463 - in that email you can see some history from Magnus Larsson who was having similar problems but with rsync over ssh. When I upgraded File::RsyncP manually to the latest version my problem went away. I'm sorry BackupPC wasn't giving me any more details than just the fileListReceive failed error. I hope this helps, let me know if you want me to downgrade again and run some more tests.
