It is very important that the fglrx driver (the proprietary one from amd/ati) is removed from the system, where an open driver should work. Also it can be important to shut down you computer and start it again if you want to use a free driver, because fglrx changes some registers, which get only set back by a new cold start. You can delete the xorg.conf and then restart, then the system should create a new one, and in that file you can change the driver to radeonhd.
You can look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.log to see which driver is used. Or start System log, this is in System -> Administration -> System Log (in Gnome) and look there at the file. But sorry, if it doesn't work with an open driver either I have not ideas any more, too. :( -- No backlight control on sony laptops with ati gfx card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
