Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

'E:Malformed line 61 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse),
E:The list of sources could not be read.'

It's probably as much a human engineering bug as an update manager bug.
I wanted to add medibuntu to my repositories. I was able to add several
repositories about a month ago on a hardy machine (I'm a noob), but
didn't jigger/parse the code right this time. When I got the error
message, I wanted to take out my offensive addition, but couldn't
because clicking on synaptic just got me the update manager error
message. Closing it is the only option (I tried just clicking the X, but
with the same closure/disappearance problem). Dummyproofing anyone?

Release: 8.10
Can't check synaptic for package version and apt-cache policy packagename
produces
W: Unable to locate package packagename

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
