Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager
I am using a mobile broadband modem (Epi Valley SXC 1080: http://eng.sungiltel.com/products/sxc-1080.html) provided to me by my ISP: Tata Indicom (PlugToSurf). There is a connection profile for this ISP already available in the nm-applet (0.7) setup wizard. But the Network manager daemon fails to retrieve data from the USB CDMA Modem provided to me with the following output. In the kernel log I am getting the following entries: Dec 4 16:37:10 xendor kernel: [ 139.164057] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 Dec 4 16:37:10 xendor kernel: [ 139.284053] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Dec 4 16:37:10 xendor kernel: [ 139.508054] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Dec 4 16:37:10 xendor kernel: [ 139.724061] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 Dec 4 16:37:10 xendor kernel: [ 139.844056] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Dec 4 16:37:11 xendor kernel: [ 140.068055] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Dec 4 16:37:11 xendor kernel: [ 140.284055] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 Dec 4 16:37:11 xendor kernel: [ 140.700056] usb 3-2: device not accepting address 4, error -71 Dec 4 16:37:11 xendor kernel: [ 140.756085] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2 Dec 4 16:37:12 xendor kernel: [ 141.256058] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6 Dec 4 16:37:12 xendor kernel: [ 141.489077] usb 3-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Dec 4 16:37:13 xendor kernel: [ 142.076899] cdc_acm 3-2:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device Dec 4 16:37:13 xendor kernel: [ 142.080343] usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_acm Dec 4 16:37:13 xendor kernel: [ 142.082790] cdc_acm: v0.26:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN adapters And the Daemon Log lists the following entry Dec 4 16:37:13 xendor NetworkManager: <debug> [1228388833.425166] probe_modem(): Couldn't get caps I think it is because the modem device I am using is not providing a well formed reply. In such cases which do happen the nm-applet should allow the user a manual override to do connection setup of device manually through PPP. I believe in the 0.7 the ability to do this manually has been removed. Programs like WVDial meanwhile works perfectly with the device but unfortunately doesnot integrate with network manager. If the trend is to make NetworkManager the defacto network setup and management tool, it is mandatory that the program handle dialup modems perfectly. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Epi Valley SXC 1080 USB CDMA modem not being detected on Ubuntu 8.10 desktop edition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
