I noted that canonical have a place in the UK.

Would it be helpful if I sent my PC to the UK office and let them se the
problems first hand. This would allow them to check both problems with
both 8.04.1 and 8.10 and then return the PC to me, hopefully with a
working version of the Latest Ubunto.

Let's face it not everyone has problems and getting things to work on an
old IBM Thinkpad A21p may not be a priority.

However, I do think that many people are looking to get some further use
out of their older PC's and Laptops.
