Thank you for looking into it.

IN THE MEANTIME, I've installed two new versions of Ubuntu
AND put these versions on my BOOT/GRUB menu
and now the thing works fine and there have not been any further sudden
black-outs.

You may mark the bug-report as "NOT A CURRENT PROBLEM"
