I don't know where you got it from, you tell me. I maintain OpenOffice.org for Ubuntu so I would know if 3.0.0 was in Ubuntu 8.04. OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 wasn't even released when Ubuntu 8.04 was released and we do not put entirely new versions of OpenOffice.org into old releases of Ubuntu.
And to show you for certain what is actually in 8.04 look at: http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org As you will see the version in Ubuntu 8.04 is openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1 So maybe you used some other unofficial Ubuntu debs from somewhere else?
