I am not sure what exactly happens when you uncheck "Enable wireless". Perhaps 
it unloads the module(read driver) or put it in some "pause mode". If so, there 
will be _no_ wireless available in that hardware until the module is loaded 
again. 

This is the wifi chipset we are talking about:
Atheros AR242x 802.11abg
uname -a:
Linux sylph 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

During resume, the module is loaded(good thing), but for some reason the
link times out when it attempt to connect(this is the bad thing).

(So, there is a bug somewhere, and it sound kernel related. Moving into
linux)
