Exact same problem here with Intrepid while updating to kernel
2.6.27-9-generic 64 bits on an Acer computer with an Athlon64/Opteron
and an ATI RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series] graphics card.

Since the update, Ubuntu us functioning in low graphics mode. fglrxinfo
reports "BadRequest".

I unfortunately do not know where I can find the error message that
appeared during the update as posted above in the initial message by
toffyrn, but I recall it was the same : "Multiple versions in DKMS.
Unsure what to do. Resolve manually."

Attached is the output result from ls -alR /var/lib/dkms
